Microtek Gallery:
David Simchock

Our current Microtek Gallery contributor is David J. Simchock.

A native of Ewing, New Jersey, Mr. Simchock is an award-winning photographer whose resume includes front-page credits with The New York Times, The Washington Post, Sunday Star-Ledger (N.J.), and the Trenton Times travel section.

Mr. Simchock's artwork has been exhibited at numerous venues, and his worldly material has received various awards — including the Salmagundi Award (New York City) for the compelling "Monks in Worship" image (Vietnam), and the Award for Excellence at the Montgomery Center for the Arts (New Jersey) in early 2006 for his "Dew Drop on Leaf Edge" (Costa Rica).

A combined passion for travel and photography are clearly represented in his special view of the world.

Mr. Simchock enjoys being a stranger in a strange land, and strives to bring a fresh approach to the world of travel photography — capturing the mood of the moment, as well as the entire journey.

In 1999, Mr. Simchock embarked on a world trip that spanned five continents and lasted three years, in the process producing an impressive photo essay that chronicles the many cultures of our planet.

A wide array of Mr. Simchock's nomadically diverse images, as well as details of his business, can be found on his website, at Vagabond Vistas Photography.

For his work, Mr. Simchock uses the ArtixScan 4000tf dedicated film scanner.

"The images presented here were originally captured on a variety of 35mm films or transparencies and scanned on the 4000tf with the SilverFast software," he says.

The high-quality, high-resolution scans have played an essential role in the launch of Mr. Simchock's freelance business, allowing him to successfully market his images for stock, commercial and fine art usage.

Although Mr. Simchock now shoots exclusively digital, the 4000tf continues to play an important part in his workflow when digitizing photographs in his vast library of travel images.
