ScanMaker 6800 Wins
PC Magazine
Editors' Choice &
PC World Top 10 Awards
Carson, CA (May 2003) - Fast becoming the critics' favorite with its DIGITAL ICE technology, the ScanMaker 6800 continues to garner high marks and critical accolades, most recently nabbing a PC World Top 10 award in addition to a PC Magazine Editors' Choice prize that it won earlier this year.
The ScanMaker 6800 "is an excellent photo scanner" with DIGITAL ICE technolgy, said PC Magazine in its December 2002 issue. "If you need to scan scratched or dirty prints, this is the model to buy," it added. PC Magazine continued: "In our testing, we scanned several scratched and dirty prints and were pleasantly surprised with the results. Dust and surface scratches were effectively removed, while deep gouges that penetrated the paper were diminished."
PC World had similar enthusiastic remarks in its review, found in the May 15 issue of the publication. "When we tried out the Digital ICE function, the results were very impressive," it observed. "It did a terrific job at repairing color prints with various gouges and creases, as well as lesser imperfections."
The ScanMaker 6800 is the first flatbed scanner on the market to integrate the Digital ICE technology from Applied Science Fiction into the Microtek scanner's hardware and software, transforming the traditional photo restoration process into one that is automatic, fast and economical.
The seamless integration of hardware and software allows users to scan a damaged photo print and apply Digital ICE for photo correction. In seconds, the combined technology removes dust and lint while also correcting most scratches and cracks commonly found on photo print surfaces, bringing photo memories back to life in near-original condition.
In its Editors' Choice award, PC Magazine also cited the scanner's hardware features, which offer best-of-class digital imaging quality such as 48-bit color, 4800 x 2400 dpi optical resolution, FireWire and USB 2.0 connectivity, five one-touch buttons for automating frequently performed tasks related to scanning, a built-in 4" x 5" transparency light plate, and 8.5" x 11.7" scan area.
"As we've come to expect from Microtek, our test scans were sharper with the 6800 than with the other models we reviewed. The test scans also exhibited excellent color," it said. "All in all, the 6800 is an excellent photo scanner," it concluded.
