ScanMaker i900
Wins Prestigious
Editors' Choice
from CNET
Carson, CA (October 28, 2004) -- Microtek Lab, Inc. announced today that it received a CNET Editors' Choice award for the ScanMaker® i900, a dual media flatbed with a host of exclusive technologies including Emulsion Direct Imaging Technology (E.D.I.T.), the Microtek-patented system for "glassless" film scanning that won high praise from the editors.
CNET Editors' Choice winners are recognized as top products in their respective technology categories, and contribute to the standard by which all future products are judged. A key selection requirement is the difference it makes in the lives of its users, whether through innovative features, exceptional value for the price, remarkable ease of use, or a demonstrable boost to users' productivity.
In giving the award, CNET singled out the dual media design of the i900, which uses an optical assembly for front-lighted reflective images and back-lighted transparent images. The identical top and bottom light sources deliver consistent color for both media, and rotating mirrors redirect the light path precisely from reflective or transparency targets to the scanner's optical assembly. E.D.I.T., which is built into the scanner's lower bay, produces the distortion-free transparency scans required for professional applications.
"The most notable feature of the ScanMaker i900 is its dual scan bed," said CNET. "Essentially, in addition to the typical flatbed glass plate, it has a second, glassless film scanner with the glass scan face underneath. By eliminating the glass, the way a standalone film scanner does, the i900 can capture more tonal information from film -- from light shades to deep browns."
In additional remarks, CNET commented favorably on the ScanWizard Pro scanning software for being "very easy to use" and for offering "a wide range of tools for adjusting scanned images." The review also took note of PictuRescue, a photo and film reconstruction system built into the i900 that includes DIGITAL ICE Photo Print Technology to fix damaged photos, and ColoRescue to restore faded color to photos and film.
"We are very excited about this honor from CNET as their Editors' Choice award has become the hallmark of technology quality and innovation, and its logo is a symbol consumers know and trust," said Mary Ann Whitlock, executive director of marketing. "This is an exceptional achievement and we are very proud to be recognized for our dedication and commitment to producing the highest quality products available today."
The CNET award is the second in a row for the i900, which also garnered the Hot1 Award from Professional Photgrapher Magazine earlier this month.
