ScanMaker s400 Offers Hi-Res for Under $150

Carson, CA (July 27, 2004) -- Microtek introduced today the ScanMaker®promo s400, a high-resolution scanner featuring 4800 x 9600 dpi, true 48-bit color, newly designed housing, and a new multiframe 35mm slide and filmstrip adapter for more productive transparency scans.

This is the first scanner to offer 4800-dpi resolution for under $150.

As part of its package of superior hardware features, the ScanMaker s400 includes a powerful 128,160-element staggered tri-linear CCD, an array that consists of 12 rows of image sensors -- four times as many sensors compared to a conventional tri-linear array -- for improved color reproduction and more accurate data capture.

The scanner also features Hi-Speed USB connectivity for easy plug-and-play setup and high-speed scanning.

And with eight Smart-Touch buttons built into the front panel of the scanner, users can automate frequently performed tasks such as scan, copy, OCR, and email with one click of a button.

New Accessory Makes Film Scanning Easy
The ScanMaker s400 comes with the new LightLid 35™ Plus, an external accessory for scanning 35mm slides and filmstrips. The accessory accommodates one 35mm filmstrip of four frames, or four mounted 35mm slides. A new "double-slot" design on the underside allows easy and correct insertion of either slides or filmstrip.

In addition, the new design of the accessory allows it to be placed completely flat on the scanner glass bed, providing a more even distribution of light when film is scanned and yielding higher-quality 35mm scans as a result. And to boost its convenience factor, the LightLid 35 Plus calibrates automatically every time it is used, producing consistently excellent color and tonal accuracy even as it eliminates the need for any user intervention or manual calibration.

The LightLid 35 Plus complements the redesigned housing of the ScanMaker s400, with the new housing providing a stable base for the scanner that results in reliable, high-quality images. The solid build and stylish exterior of the ScanMaker s400 also make the scanner suitable for any home or office decor.

Software & Compatibility
To complement the array of superior hardware features, the ScanMaker s400 offers a comprehensive software bundle. Its ScanWizard™ 5 scanner controller software includes an integrated PDF engine allowing users to easily convert documents to pdf format at the touch of a button.

As a bonus, users of the ScanMaker s400 can enjoy the advantage of Microtek's ColoRescue™, an automatic color recovery feature built into ScanWizard 5 that restores dull or faded colors to their original brilliance in one click. ColoRescue works in restoring color for both photos and film.
